  • Analysis of the Middle and Downstream Markets of China's Waste-to-energy Industry Chain in 2021 Article Guide

Waste-to-energy refers to a form of power generation in which municipal solid waste is burned through a special incineration boiler, and then a steam turbine generator set is used to generate electricity. Garbage power generation collects all kinds of garbage, and then sorts them. Our country's domestic waste treatment technology started late, but in recent years, with the support of national industrial policies, our country's waste incineration technology has been rapidly developed, and waste incineration power generation processing has shown a rapid growth momentum in our country.

    Industry Chain

Waste-to-energy is divided into two categories: waste incineration power generation and landfill gas power generation. One is to carry out high-temperature incineration for those with a higher combustion value. The heat generated in the high-temperature incineration is converted into high-temperature steam, which drives the turbine to rotate and the generator to generate electricity. The other is to ferment and anaerobic the incombustible organic matter, and finally dry and desulfurize, to produce a gas called methane, also called biogas. After combustion, the heat energy is converted into steam, and then promote the rotation of the turbine and drive the generator to produce electricity.

    Upstream Analysis

    1. Domestic garbage

According to the National Bureau of Statistics China Statistical Yearbook 2020, our country’s domestic waste was removed and transported 242.062 million tons in 2019. As of the end of 2019, there were 1,183 harmless domestic waste treatment plants in cities across the country. The treatment capacity is 869,900 tons, the amount of harmless treatment is 24.128 million tons, and the harmless treatment rate of domestic garbage reaches 99.2%. The China Commercial Industry Research Institute predicts that in 2021, the volume of domestic waste removal and disposal in our country will reach 267.075 million tons and 26.134 million tons, respectively.

    2. Industrial waste

In 2019, 196 large and medium-sized cities produced 1.38 billion tons of general industrial solid waste, 850 million tons of comprehensive utilization, 310 million tons of disposal, 360 million tons of storage, and 42 thousand tons of dumping. In 2019, the output of general solid waste in our country's key cities reached 725.44 million tons, and the disposal volume reached 144.1 million tons.

    3. Waste incineration equipment

The incinerator is the core equipment of the waste incineration treatment system. Its design needs to fully consider the waste residence time, combustion temperature, residence time of flue gas in the furnace, turbulence and other factors, so as to achieve complete combustion, control odor and dioxins The purpose of the substance. At present, domestic and foreign domestic waste incinerators with more mature technologies mainly include fluidized bed incinerators and grate furnaces. In 2020, the market size of waste incineration power generation equipment is about 16.8 billion yuan. It is estimated that our country's waste incineration power generation equipment market will reach 21.4 billion yuan in 2021.

    4. Generator set

In general, our common generator sets are usually driven by steam turbines, water turbines or internal combustion engines (gasoline, diesel engines, etc.). Renewable new energy sources include nuclear energy, wind energy, solar energy, biomass energy, ocean energy, etc. The data shows that the output of generator sets in our country is fluctuating. In 2020, the output of generator sets in our country will reach 13.226.2 million kilowatts, and it is expected that the output of generator sets in our country will reach 173.787 million kilowatts in 2021.

    Midstream Analysis

China Commercial Industry Research Institute predicts that the installed capacity of waste incineration power generation will reach 17.29 million kilowatts in 2021.

    2. Newly installed capacity

Data show that the newly installed capacity of waste incineration power generation in our country will increase from 810,000 kilowatts in 2016 to 3.11 million kilowatts in 2020, with an average annual compound growth rate of 39.98%. China Commercial Industry Research Institute predicts that the newly installed capacity of waste incineration power generation will reach 3.9 million kilowatts in 2021.

    3. Power generation

Data show that biomass power generation will be 132.6 billion kWh in 2020, a year-on-year increase of 19.4%. In the first half of 2021, biomass power generation will reach 78 billion kWh, a year-on-year increase of approximately 26.6%.

    4. Competitive landscape

From the perspective of the market competition pattern of our country’s waste incineration industry, the following companies occupy the majority, namely, Everbright International, Green Power, Kangheng Environment, China Environmental Protection Group, Zheneng Jinjiang Environment, Shenzhen Energy, Shanghai Environment, Yuefeng Environment, Chongqing Mitutoyo, Beijing Enterprises, Beijing Capital Environment.
