China's waste disposal model breaks the curse of waste siege
At the beginning of this century, in the developing countries of Asia, in the stage of accelerated urbanization, domestic waste began to skyrocket. China follows the spirit of seeking truth from facts, in accordance with its own actual situation, pragmatically chooses the treatment route of waste incineration power generation, and continues to innovate relevant technologies, continuously increase the waste power generation capacity of waste incineration projects, reduce the construction cost of waste incineration, vigorously promote the localization of key technologies, and adopt the world's only and leading public participation and strong supervision model of whole-process emission information, so that China's waste incineration power generation industry can continue to win the trust of the people and reduce the public's nimby avoidance at the same time. It also solves the problem of garbage siege in China better and faster, and realizes the continuous emission reduction of key pollutants.
Taking the key sensitive indicator dioxin as an example, China's just-released "Control of Persistent Organic Pollutants in China (2004-2024)" mentions that compared with 2004, the emission intensity of flue gas dioxins in the domestic waste incineration industry has decreased by about 97%, and atmospheric dioxin emissions have still decreased. China's waste management model, which is dominated by incineration for power generation, has successfully freed China from the trap of waste siege in other developing countries.
According to the statistical report on the incinerator and treatment capacity of the waste incineration industry in the past five years released by the clean air group, there are 2,132 incinerators in operation in China, including 2,011 grate furnaces and 119 circulating fluidized bed furnaces, with a total daily processing capacity of 1.1 million tons. Based on the standard investment cost of 500,000 yuan per ton, the total investment of China's waste incineration industry has exceeded 550 billion yuan. After 2016, that is, after the first round of implementation of China's central ecological and environmental protection inspection, it entered the climax of the construction and operation of China's waste incineration industry. Since 2016, a total of 1,657 waste incinerators have been put into operation, accounting for 77% of the current national total.
Waste incineration has given a huge ecological positive effect to China in terms of public health protection, elimination of infectious diseases, and carbon emission reduction of waste, especially during the epidemic period, the waste incineration industry has taken on many major responsibilities for public health protection, and has played a positive role in epidemic prevention in quickly eliminating the virus infection chain and curbing the spread of the virus through garbage and microorganisms.
