The 9th International Training Workshop of Waste to Energy Concludes Successfully
On November 23, 2025, the 9th International Training Workshop on Waste to Energy concluded with great success in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Jointly organized by Zhejiang University (ZJU) and Zhejiang University of Technology (ZJUT), the event was supported by the International Consultant Committee of Waste to Energy (ICCWtE), the King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST), and the Global Waste-to-Energy Research and Technology Council (WtERT). The closing ceremony, chaired by Prof. Mi Yan of ZJUT, celebrated the achievements and insights shared throughout the event.
During the 15-day training, 24 participants from 9 developing countries (Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Yemen, Egypt, Morocco, Sudan, Tunisia, India, and Colombia) gained invaluable experience in the field. The training curriculum covered topics such as incineration technology and equipment, operational management, business models, strategies for avoiding NIMBY (Not In My Backyard) issues, and policies and regulations related to waste treatment and disposal.

ICCWtE members, including Prof. Xiaodong Li of ZJU, Prof. Mi Yan of ZJUT, China, and Prof. Agamutu Pariatamby from Sunway University, Malaysia, actively participated in the workshop’s main activities.

Since its inception in 2016, nine International Training Workshops of Waste to Energy have been successfully conducted, benefiting over 230 participants from 41 developing countries across Asia, Africa, the South Americas, and East Europe. This platform for international cooperation has allowed trainees to gain a comprehensive understanding of China’s advancements in science and technology, fostering long-term and productive collaborations in waste-to-energy technology among China and developing countries worldwide.
