2022 WtERT Asia Meeting successfully held online
Co-organized by Columbia Global Centers | Beijing and the Global Waste-to-Energy Research and Technology Council (GWC), the 2022 Waste-to-Energy Research and Technology (WtERT) Asia Meeting was successfully held from May 18, 2022, to May 20, 2022, online. The meeting covered four related and progressive topics and they are the benefit of WtE and its promotion, the WtE practice in China and its replicability, possible ways to build collaboration, and how to advocate for WtE on the global public agenda. There is a consensus at the meeting: China has made enormous progress in replacing landfilling with waste-to-energy (WTE) plants in the last thirty years. The large-scale application of WtE in China has significantly reduced the cost per ton investment (CAPEX) of the plants, resulting in a model of waste disposal that can be afforded and adopted by developing countries in Asia and Africa.
The Chair of the International Consultant Committee of Waste to Energy (ICCWtE), Prof. Xiaodong Li, and a member of the ICCWtE, Prof. Masaki Takaoka attended this meeting and shared the experience of WtE in China and Japan respectively.
