Overview of Waste to Energy Market in 2022
According to the published information, the waste to energy market of China (mainland) competition among core enterprises presents the phenomenon of "five extensions" in 2022, that is, from large and medium-sized cities to small cities, from cities to counties, from the first phase to the second and third phases, from single projects to industrial eco-parks, and from municipal solid waste (MSW) treatment to more solid wastes collaborative treatment. At the same time, the focus of waste incineration industry has shifted from the development of new projects to the refined management and intelligent upgrading of put-into-production projects, and reducing costs and increasing efficiency has become the key index of project management.
According to the statistics of the bid opening of waste incineration power generation projects in 2022, 65 projects were opened (including signing) in 20 provinces and cities, and the following sets of data were obtained according to the public data. The newly-increased MSW incineration capacity is 39,750 tons/day, and the average unit price of MSW disposal is 93.7 yuan/ton, which is 25.8 billion yuan in total investment of the project. The scale of new projects for bid opening is mostly in the range of 400 tons/day to 600 tons/day, accounting for 50% of the total number.
From the distribution of cities and counties, the number of MSW incineration power generation projects in large and medium-sized cities has dropped sharply. Yunnan MSW incineration power generation market broke out in 2022, and 11 incineration power generation projects were opened and signed successively, with an additional capacity of 4,300 tons/day. Guangdong Province, as an economic province in the southeast coast, the waste incineration power generation market continues to erupt, and the scale of bid opening projects is generally large. Henan Province continued the high-speed development trend in the previous two years.
Although the number of bid opening this year has decreased compared with the previous two years, it ranks second in the number of bid opening in all provinces this year, with a total production capacity of 2,850 tons/day. With the mature development of MSW incineration power generation industry, many projects have been running for more than 15 years. Recently, Zhejiang Province announced seven incineration power generation projects that have been running for 15 years. The cancellation of subsidies has officially sounded the "alarm" for the industry, and reducing costs and increasing efficiency has become a key indicator of project operation management. The focus of enterprises in the industry has shifted from the development of new projects to the refined management and intelligent upgrading of production projects.
The curtain of the construction of domestic waste incineration facilities in county-level areas has been opened, and how to maximize the project economy is a severe challenge facing the industry at present.
