Egerton Gold Award of combustion institute, and the Outstanding Female Scientist Award in Chemistry/Chemical Industry of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry, and made a special report at the 50th anniversary meeting of combustion institute in 2004. He made a Hottel Memorial report at the 38th International Combustion Conference in 2021, and was one of the most internationally influential scientists in this field.
On the morning of July 17th, Professor Katharina Kohse-Höinghaus was invited to visit the laboratories and equipment of the Institute of Thermal Energy Engineering, and to attend the symposium for teachers and students of the Institute of Energy Engineering, which was attended by many professors such as Academician Cenkefa and Professor Yan Jianhua. Professor Wang Zhihua introduced the State Key Laboratory of Efficient and Clean Energy Utilization of Zhejiang University and the current domestic energy situation to Professor Katharina Kohse-Höinghaus. The professor raised several questions and discussed the research contents in depth with the professors on the spot.
On the afternoon of July 17th, the 132nd lecture by Professor Katharina Kohse-Höinghaus of "Lecture Hall for Overseas Masters" was successfully held in the lecture hall of Shao Yifu in Yuquan Campus. He Lianzhen, Vice President, Yan Jianhua, Vice Chairman of Development Committee of Zhejiang University, Zhu Ruilin, Foreign Secretary of Energy Engineering College, and more than 60 teachers and students attended the academic feast, and the report was presided over by Huang Qunxing, Vice President of Energy Engineering College.
He Lianzhen, Vice President, first made an opening speech on behalf of the school. She briefly introduced the main academic achievements of Professor Katharina Kohse-Höinghaus and the significance of this report, and extended a warm welcome to her on behalf of Zhejiang University. Subsequently, Yan Jianhua, Vice Chairman of the Development Committee of Zhejiang University, presented Professor Katharina Kohse-Höinghaus with a thank-you certificate and a crystal commemorative card for the lecture hall of overseas famous teachers.
Subsequently, Professor Katharina Kohse-Höinghaus gave a keynote speech entitled "Combustion, Chemistry and Carbon Neutrality", focusing on the latest international experimental research and model progress in renewable fuels and low-carbon combustion, and discussing the role that combustion can play in achieving the goal of carbon neutrality. Firstly, the current situation of global energy use and carbon emissions is introduced, and the research topics of alternative fuel combustion and chemical research in the energy field to achieve carbon neutrality are briefly explained. The basic chemical model of combustion chemistry and its role and positioning are expounded. Professor Katharina Kohse-Höinghaus also summarized the latest research results of fuel and smoke analysis and detection technology, alternative fuel and unconventional combustion technology, multi-component fuel production and complex combustion system in the world, which opened the way for reducing carbon emissions and building a sustainable and low-carbon combustion system. Finally, the practical application fields of unconventional combustion technology in the future and the research direction of carbon-reducing combustion system are explained. For example, metal combustion can explore the potential of high-efficiency, large-scale and carbon-free power generation of oxidation-reduction cycle, which can be used to transform existing coal-fired power plants.
Professor Katharina Kohse-Höinghaus's wonderful report aroused the strong interest of teachers and students. In the question-and-answer session, the teachers and students present actively asked questions and had a warm exchange with Professor Katharina Kohse-Höinghaus. This report came to an end with warm applause.
On the morning of July 18th, Professor Katharina Kohse-Höinghaus was invited to visit the Qingshan Lake Energy Research Base of Zhejiang University, and successively visited the comprehensive experimental platform of solar thermal power generation, the experimental platform of PM2.5 generation mechanism and efficient removal, the experimental platform of CO2 mineralization, the experimental platform of thermochemical sulfur-iodine cycle for efficient water decomposition and hydrogen production, and the resource-based disposal of solid wastes. During the visit, Professor Katharina and the base teachers discussed and exchanged the research topics carried out by the relevant experimental platforms.
After the visit, Professor Katharina had a meeting with Professor Yan Jianhua. Professor Yan Jianhua introduced the basic situation of Qingshan Lake Energy Research Base of Zhejiang University, and introduced the main research directions of the base, such as clean resource utilization of solid waste, clean energy and energy storage technology, CCUS technology and graded transformation of fossil energy. Professor Katharina affirmed the investment of Zhejiang University in the construction of energy discipline, and praised the scientific research and exploration of Zhejiang University's energy discipline and the experimental platform of Qingshan Lake Base. Later, Professor Katharina fully communicated with the participants based on the construction experience of German energy engineering discipline, and put forward some personal ideas and suggestions. Through this investigation and exchange, the future academic cooperation between the energy discipline of Zhejiang University and the University of Bielefeld in Germany has been broadened, and the purpose of learning, exchange and common development has been achieved.
Professor Katharina Kohse-Höinghaus's visit deepened teachers' and students' understanding of how to achieve the goal of carbon neutrality by low-carbon fuel combustion and combustion, introduced the latest international experimental research and model progress, and gave useful guidance to teachers' and students' own scientific research projects, further created a strong international frontier academic atmosphere and promoted the international cooperation and exchange of the school.
