  • Hangzhou Asian Games will become the first large-scale "Zero Waste" event in the world

54 days countdown to Hangzhou Asian Games.

Hangzhou Asian Games will become the first large-scale "Zero Waste" event in the world. Zero waste does not mean no solid waste, but an advanced urban management concept-an urban development model that minimizes the environmental impact of solid waste by promoting the formation of green development mode and lifestyle, and continuously promoting the source reduction and resource utilization of solid waste.

In recent years, although the pressure of urban solid waste treatment has increased with the continuous population growth in Hangzhou, the indicators such as the intensity of industrial solid waste, hazardous waste, domestic waste, construction waste and the capacity of disposal and utilization in Hangzhou are all in the forefront, and it has taken the lead in realizing the "zero landfill" of hazardous waste, and has initially formed a new "waste-free Hangzhou" model of "multi-governance, green circulation, intelligent supervision and innovative demonstration".

Based on the existing good foundation, this Asian Games has formulated the Implementation Guide of "Zero Waste Asian Games" in view of the fact that there was no " Zero Waste" evaluation system for large-scale sports events in the past, clarifying the key " Zero Waste " measures before, during and after the games, and exploring the construction of the evaluation index and index system of " Zero Waste Asian Games".

In fact, in the process of preparing for the Asian Games, the concept of "Zero Waste Asian Games" has penetrated into all aspects.

Taking the construction of venues as an example, the layout planning stage follows the principles of changing without building, repairing without replacing, renting without buying, and making full use of existing venues and facilities. Of the 56 Asian Games venues in Hangzhou Asian Games, 44 were rebuilt or temporarily built, and only 12 were newly built. Of the 19 venues for the Asian Paralympic Games, 17 were used for the Asian Games, and the other 2 were also rebuilt.

In the stage of venue design and construction, clean energy and renewable energy are maximized by optimizing the design of building structure, and the source reduction and resource utilization of solid waste are promoted.

The total steel consumption of the steel structure of the "Little Lotus" venue was only 28,000 tons, saving more than 1/3 of the steel consumption compared with the same size venues. The original wooden floor of the handball competition hall of the Asian Games in Zhejiang Gongshang University was removed and transported and installed to Fenkou Middle School in Chun'an County. During the reconstruction of Huanglong Gymnasium, a "mobile impact crushing station" was adopted. More than 9,000 tons of construction waste were crushed and automatically classified, and turned into reusable semi-finished products, which were used as raw materials for dry-mixed mortar and plastering mortar.

In addition to venues, the Hangzhou Asian Games also promoted the reduction of sources in all areas, including green accommodation, frugal catering, paperless competition, promotion of renewable materials, etc., and integrated the concept, behavior and mode of "Zero Waste" into the whole process, fields and links of the Asian Games preparation and post-competition utilization. Make the best use of the waste materials produced to ensure that the recycling rate of the materials for the meeting is not less than 50%.

For example, the Asian Games Village introduced straw hangers and environmentally-friendly fabric washing bags, which greatly reduced the use of plastic products. During the Asian Games, the "Empty Bottle Recycling Action" will be carried out, and all mineral water bottles in the Asian Games Village and competition venues will be recycled and reused.

This competition will become an example for all sectors of society to participate in the "Zero Waste" activities, promote the public to form good habits, and have a far-reaching impact on the development of a green lifestyle. At the same time, through the continuous deepening and practice of the concept of " Zero waste", it will also promote the development of the construction industry in a more environmentally friendly and sustainable direction and promote the transformation and upgrading of related industrial chains.
