  • The ideal of "Zero Waste"

    "Zero-Waste City"

"Zero Waste" does not mean that there is no solid waste, nor does it mean that solid waste can be fully utilized as resources. Instead, it refers to an urban development model that takes the new development concept as the guide, promotes the formation of a green development mode and lifestyle, and continuously promotes the source reduction and resource utilization of solid waste, minimizes the amount of landfill and minimizes the impact of solid waste on the environment. Carrying out the construction of a "Zero-Waste City" is an important decision made by the CPC Central Committee and the State Council, and it is also an important measure to continuously and deeply fight the tough battle of pollution prevention and control. The Work Plan for the Construction of a Zero-Waste City during the Tenth Five-Year Plan period issued by 18 ministries and commissions proposes to promote the construction of a Zero-Waste city in about 100 cities at or above the prefecture level. By 2025, the intensity of solid waste production in a Zero-Waste city will decrease rapidly, the comprehensive utilization level will be significantly improved, the harmless disposal capacity will be effectively guaranteed, and the synergy of pollution reduction and carbon reduction will be fully exerted, basically realizing the "One Network" of solid waste management information.

"Zero-Waste City" has a great prospect

The potential and potential benefits of building a "Zero-Waste City" are enormous. By 2030, the output value of classified resource utilization of solid waste in China will reach 7 trillion yuan, which will drive about 40-50 million jobs and become an important pillar of strategic emerging industries and new kinetic energy for economic growth in China. There are similar expressions of "Zero-Waste society" in the international community and regions, such as "Zero-Waste Plan" in Europe, "Circular Society" in Japan, "Zero-Waste Country" in Singapore and "Zero-Waste Society" in Taiwan Province, China. Although the formulation of " Zero-Waste Society" is different, the core goal and vision are the same.
