  • What is a "waste-free city"?

    01 What is a "waste-free city"?

Guided by the new development concept of innovation, coordination, green, openness and sharing, the "waste-free city" is an urban development model that promotes the formation of green development methods and lifestyles, continuously promotes the source reduction and resource utilization of solid waste, minimizes the amount of landfill, and minimizes the environmental impact of solid waste.

02 Is there really no waste in a "waste-free city"?

Of course not. A "waste-free city" is not a city without any waste, nor is it a complete elimination of garbage and waste, but through effective management, it promotes the recycling, reduction, and harmless disposal of solid waste to achieve a virtuous cycle.

Waste-free cities should adhere to the "four principles", which can be seen, reduced, usable, and eliminated.

"Visible" means the whole process of monitoring, putting all waste under supervision, and completely eliminating the unorganized discharge of waste.

"Reducible" means to reduce the amount at the source and alleviate the pressure on the environment.

"Usable" means to recycle waste through various methods and turn waste into treasure.

"Eliminable" means to minimize the environmental impact of end-of-line waste disposal.

    03 Why build a "waste-free city"?

China is the most populous country in the world, and it is also one of the countries with the largest amount of solid waste generation, with more than 10 billion tons of new solid waste added every year, and the total historical inventory is as high as 60 billion tons to 70 billion tons. The amount of solid waste generated is huge, the degree of resource utilization is low, the "contradiction" between the amount of solid waste generated and the treatment capacity is huge, the problem of wasting land resources and destroying the ecological environment has not been effectively solved, and the phenomenon of garbage siege in some areas is extremely prominent. Therefore, promoting the construction of "waste-free cities" will guide the whole society to reduce the generation of solid waste, improve the level of urban solid waste management, and accelerate the solution of the long-delayed solid waste pollution problem.

04 "Waste-free cities", what can we do?

The construction of "waste-free city" is an important way for the sustainable development of cities in the future, a project for the benefit of future generations, and a work for the whole people to build and share, which is inseparable from the participation of every ordinary person. From garbage classification, low-carbon travel, learning to share, green consumption, CD-ROM action, etc. Practicing these specific green lifestyles is contributing to the construction of a "waste-free city" for each of us!
