This is not a volcanic eruption, but a five-story mountain with 250,000 tons of garbage. The place where the thick smoke and odor float away is Hsinchu City, where the global chip king, TSMC headquarters and top chip factory are located.

The garbage mountain located by the sea is only 10 kilometers away from Hsinchu city. Under the blessing of the sea breeze, the stench of garbage burning in the open air can reach here in less than half an hour.

This garbage mountain belongs to Hsinchu Xinfeng Garbage Landfill, the largest fresh garbage dump in China at present, with a stacking height of 18 meters, covering an area of 10 hectares, and filled with nearly 250,000 tons of fresh garbage, equivalent to half the size of Jingshan Park. All the garbage, is exposed in the air without any cover.

The cracks in the garbage mountain are filled with biogas, which smolders at the bottom at first and gradually burns to the top of the mountain. Then the dry garbage at the top was ignited into flame. The thick smoke was wrapped in odor and poison gas and drifted away to TSMC in Hsinchu City.

Hundreds of firefighters and dozens of fire engines from all over Hsinchu County and Hsinchu City need to take part in the fire fighting, and the fire fighting process often lasts for several days.

And such a bad process has happened almost once a month in the last 7 years since 2018. Xinfeng landfill has piled up 250 thousand tons of garbage, which has been the biggest nightmare of Hsinchu County. Hsinchu City, which is located in the downwind, is a tall area known as Silicon Valley in Taiwan Province, and is forced to pollute collectively once a month.
