5th International Young Scientists Symposium on Waste Management and Disposal Technology was successfully organized
The 5th International Young Scientists Symposium on Waste Management and Disposal Technology was successfully held at Hangzhou during July 21 to 25. This symposium was conducted through a combination of online and offline modes, with 30 international researchers from Malaysia, Pakistan, Thailand, Indonesia, Bangladesh, and other countries participating offline. The symposium was jointly organized by overseas universities such as Sunway University in Malaysia, Universiti Malaya, Institut Teknologi Bandung in Indonesia, Universitas Indonesia in Indoneisa, Thammasat University in Thailand, Kasetsart University in Thailand, and PMAS-Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi in Pakistan. Prof. Mi Yan from the College of Mechanical Engineering at our university served as the chairman of the symposium.

At July 22 Morning, the symposium was opened. Prof. Yizhou Wu, Vice Dean of the Graduate School, Zhejiang University of Technology (ZJUT), delivered a welcome speech. Prof. Wu welcomed young scholars and experts from various countries to visit ZJUT, congratulated the successful opening of the symposium, who also introduced educational situation and development vision of ZJUT. Dr. Yujia Wu from Zhejiang University and Zhan Liang, General Manager of the International Business Department of Shanghai SUS Environment Co., Ltd., respectively gave keynote speeches on Emission Control of Organic Pollutants during the Coal and MSW Combustion in China: Current Study and Challenges, Waste to Energy (WtE) and Carbon Emission Reduction in China. After opening ceremony, international scholars also visited the Laser Advanced Manufacturing Research Institute and the Intelligent Transportation Laboratory.

This symposium had four sessions with different sub-topics, including High-value Conversion of Waste, Gas Production and Separation, New Perspectives on Waste Management, and New Pollutants and Challenges. 28 international scholars reported their latest research results and progress in turn. The attendees actively participated and engaged in lively discussions. The on-site academic discussion atmosphere was hot, which stimulated the thinking and collaboration among the participants.

At July 23 afternoon, the international researchers visited Hangzhou Linjiang Environmental Energy Co., Ltd. Mr. Guobin Wang introduced the propaganda wall, technology exhibition area, MSW unloading platform and tipping hall, incinerator, flue gas clean equipment, steam turbine and other main equipment in their company. It was reported that the company was equipped with 6×870 t/d incinerators and 3×50 MW generator sets, with a daily incineration capacity of over 5200 tons of household waste. At the same time, the company has projects for hazardous waste incineration, biogas purification to produce natural gas, and comprehensive utilization of ash and slag. International researchers highly praised the waste treatment technology and facilities of Hangzhou Linjiang Environmental Energy Co., Ltd. They have raised questions and exchanged views on interest issues, such as waste pretreatment, incineration temperature, and NIMBY. After the industrial field visiting, international researchers also visited the Hangzhou City Balcony, showing the beautiful modern city of Hangzhou and its development.

On July 24, international scholars visited Zhejiang Anji Tianzi Lake Thermal Power Co., Ltd. and Wangneng Environment Co., Ltd. International scholars visited Anji Tianzi Lake Thermal Power Co., Ltd., which was currently undergoing a coal and general industrial solid waste co-firing renovation project, as well as a flue gas CO2 capture and mineralization carbonate production project. General Manager Ming Li and Chief Engineer Lei Yang accompanied the explanation and visit. Lv Zhigang, Chief Engineer of Wangneng Environment Co., Ltd., introduced the development history and achievements of the solid waste energy utilization business. Taking the Xuchang project as an example, he analyzed deindustrialization design, incineration and pollution control technology, neighbor avoidance effect prevention, AI intelligent incineration technology, etc. He also reported on the company's ultra-high pressure reheating project, ash resource utilization and fly ash treatment project, overseas waste incineration power generation EPC project, etc., and there was a good interaction between company staffs and international scholars. Everyone also visited the company's big data center, which can achieve remote real-time operation monitoring of projects across the country.

In addition to academic and engineering investigations, international scholars also visited Dazhuyuan Village in Anji County, the Bamboo Replacement for Plastic Pavilion, and the Anji Youpin Hui Exhibition Hall. Zhou Hao, a guide from the Dazhuyuan Village Committee, introduced the village renovation plan and the integrated development of agriculture, culture, and tourism. International young scholars personally experienced the achievements of the Zhejiang Million Project construction. Lang Guohua, the person in charge of Anji Youpinhui, introduced Anji as the birthplace of the Two Mountains theory, deeply exploring and fully practicing the clustering of bamboo industry and branding of rural specialties, and exploring the development of urban-rural common prosperity. International scholars have observed various exquisite bamboo handicrafts and Anji's promotion of bamboo as a substitute for plastic industry, experienced the richness of the local area, understood the local industry, and felt the modern governance and development plan of rural areas in Zhejiang.

The 5th International Young Scientists Symposium on Waste Management and Disposal Technology has successfully closed at the Moganshan Campus, Zhejiang University of Technology. This symposium not only deepened the academic exchanges among scholars from all countries, but also enhanced the understanding of China's ecological civilization construction, village development t construction and Chinese path to modernization exploration for common prosperity, enhanced the friendship between scholars from all countries, provided new ideas for future scientific research, and laid a foundation for cooperation.
